Course Description – Blended EFAW + Outdoor First Aid

This course is suitable for learners working in an outdoor environment who are required to undertake the role of an emergency first aider in the workplace.

The e-learning module enables you to do part of your course online before attending a practical session in the classroom

It meets all HSE requirements for Emergency First Aid at Work training other than the practical assessments which must be carried out in the classroom in order to receive the Emergency First Aid at Work certificate.

  • Roles and Responsibilities of a First Aider
  • Incident and Casualty Assessment and Reporting
  • Outdoor scene survey
  • First Aid kits and infection control
  • Emergcency equipment – outdoor shelters
  • Getting help in an outdoors emergency including air, land and sea rescue
  • CPR and AED (defibrillator)
  • Drowning
  • Choking
  • Dealing with an Unconscious Casualty
  • Seizures
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Asthma
  • Shock including cold water shock
  • Minor Injuries including cuts. grazes, splinters
  • Burns including electrical, UV light and friction (blister) burns
  • Eye, Ears and Nose injuries
  • External Bleeding
  • Extremes of Temperature including hypothermia, frost bite, heat exhaustion, heatstroke and dehydration
  • Poisoning including blue green algae, giant hogweed
  • Weil’s Disease, Cryptosporidiosis, E.coli 0157
  • Animal and insect bites and stings (including ticks and Lyme Disease, jellyfish, sea urchins and snakes

Accreditation: This course is approved by the FAIB (First Aid Industry Body).
